Summary of Gentoo council meeting 2022-01-09

Agenda
======
1. Roll call
2. Open bugs with Council participation
3. Open floor

Roll call
=========
Present: dilfridge, gyakovlev, marecki, mattst88, mgorny, sam, ulm

Open bugs with council participation
====================================
- Bug 823762 "[TRACKER] ~ only candidate arches"

  Progress continues to be made and all stabilisation requests on all
  former arches of concern are now handled reasonably quickly.

  It has been decided that the ticket shall remain open until two
  ongoing action items (deployment of two additional hppa systems, and
  provisioning of a dedicated ppc32 system), have been resolved.

  The Council intends to continue to periodically review arch
  activities.

  MOTION: "the Council must review the status of Gentoo arch activity
  during the last meeting of each calendar quarter, at least"
  2 yes, 3 no, 2 abstain --- motion rejected
  It transpired during the vote that most Council members would prefer
  the mandatory review interval to be 6 rather than 3 months.

  ACTION ITEM (marecki): start an e-mail discussion on the exact
  timeline for biannual reviews, to be followed by a new vote come
  February meeting.

- Bug 821553 "Document upgrade path policy"
- Bug 824018 "media-libs/libpng: dropping "apng" patches"
- Bug 828113 "Proposal to ship donated HPPA development system
    from Europe to OSUOSL"

  The Council decided to remove itself from the CC, leaving any further
  action to respective assignees.

Open floor
==========

sam has volunteered to write to the ML asking if anyone cares
about ia64.
ACTION ITEM (sam): ^^^

The PMS team may ask for EAPI 9 feature preapproval on the next
meeting [1].

marecki has raised the question of whether it would make sense
to purchase an Alpha server for Gentoo (e.g. from [2]) to complement
current keywording efforts on this arch, which for at least the last
year have been handled single-handedly by mattst88 on their own
hardware.
ACTION ITEM (mattst88): review the current situation and possible ways
of improving availability of Alpha systems to Gentoo arch testers, and
post a summary to the ML - preferably in time for the matter to be
discussed before the next Council meeting.
